Powell was first settled roughly two years before Ohio became a state in 1801. Years later in 1857, Judge Thomas Powell established the first post office in the community. Additionally, it is known as one of the country’s five best places to raise a family based on the cost of living, affordable home and quality of education. The mission of Parks and Recreation Department is to create community through people, parks and programs. There are more than 200 recreational, leisure and educational programs offered throughout the year.
